On the following weekend we were heading down to the river again for an LRF meet up organised by Luke Fox. I was shocked by the turn out and it was so nice to meet some other people who share the same fantastic hobby as us. Perfect for me, Will and Jack because we are still very new to this game and we picked up a lot of tips from more experienced anglers.
Probably the best advice given to me that day was “Get a side pouch with a zip, so your kit doesn’t fall out’. I was told this just after I’d lost my mini tackle box with all my jig heads in it. When your hopping from rock to rock you don’t notice a lost bit of kit until you need it. Gutting!
Unfortunately I was fishing a few rocks away from the rest of the group and I missed two great catches. Will James caught a lovely Ballan Wrasse of about 1 1/4 pounds and one of the HRFer’s (Ben Church) had a terrific Ballan at 51cm! I wish I was there to photograph Wills fish but there is an existing photo of the larger specimen on 'The bay area LRF, Fowey-Mevagissy' Facebook page.
Later on we headed down to the Town Quay again in hope of Flounder. Bumping on the bottom with Power Isome, fished ‘wacky style’. This way of fishing was totally new to us but it sure worked! I was soon rewarded with this little beauty of a Flounder (Picture Above). The colours on him were just stunning with those pale yellow specks that dot its murky brown skin. I was absolutely stoked with my flounder and the session in general.
I left with my first lure caught flatty, Jack left with a new species (Sand Goby) and Will left with a decent Ballan Wrasse. What a Session!
